Can Invisalign help if I have crooked or crowded teeth?

The Riverside Dental team uses Invisalign orthodontic aligners to treat various alignment issues, including:

  • Crooked teeth
  • Crowded teeth
  • Overlapping teeth
  • Gaps between the teeth
  • Misaligned jaw

Sometimes, the team prescribes Invisalign to treat bite abnormalities, like underbite, overbite, and crossbite.

How is Invisalign different from traditional braces?

Invisalign improves the alignment of your teeth or jaw with removable aligners that fit snugly over your upper or lower dental arch. The aligners are made of SmartTrack® — a special plastic free of latex, gluten, and BPA — making treatment safe for pregnant women and people with allergies.

Conversely, regular braces use metal brackets, archwires, and o-rings (small rubber bands) to straighten your teeth or jaw. These appliances have been used for decades and offer lasting results, but they can be challenging to clean and care for.

What does the orthodontic treatment with Invisalign involve?

Your Riverside Dental provider reviews your dental records, completes an oral exam, and takes a series of digital panoramic X-rays. Then, they use the X-rays to assess the alignment of your teeth and jaw.

If your dentist determines you can benefit, they take intraoral scans of your teeth and jaw. Then, they use a computer program to design a series of removable Invisalign appliances. After finalizing your designs, your dentist sends them to an Invisalign lab. Professionals at the lab use the designs to manufacture a series of Invisalign appliances.

During treatment, you visit Riverside Dental every 3-4 weeks for a check up. The team assesses your progress at each visit and provides you with a new pair of Invisalign aligners. Make sure to wear each pair of aligners for 20-22 hours a day, only removing them to eat, brush, or floss.

Does Invisalign treatment take more than a year?

The length of time that Invisalign treatment takes depends on the alignment issues addressed and how well you follow your dentist’s instructions. People typically achieve their desired outcome within a year to 18 months* but it may take longer. Be patient and stick to the Riverside Dental team’s treatment plan.
